Communities United (CU) is a nationally recognized organization that advances systems change at the city and state level. CU takes an intentional alliance-building approach to its engagement of over 60 organizations across Chicago and Illinois to create, implement, and sustain transformative systems change. Throughout its history, CU has engaged more than 20,000 individuals and families through its campaigns, initiatives, and programs. In this proposed project CU and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago will develop a model to give voice to BYMOC to advocate for more effective mental health care. Building upon the successful outcomes of their existing partnership, CU and Lurie Children’s will test out a model to expand mental health services in schools to shape and inform a statewide initiative called Rethinking Safety. CU seeks to increase acknowledgment of the critical role community-led healing processes have in supporting the healing of trauma among BYMOC.
