Fernando is a community organizer with three decades of organizing experience on immigration, workers’ rights, and public education issues. Fernando has worked in building Black and Brown solidarity and power with families who have been negatively impacted by the education system, specifically in the areas of special education, language access, school discipline, and school police. He was the first field organizer for the National Dignity in Schools campaign and the first organizing director for North Carolina-based Education Justice Alliance. He currently leads a team of six organizers fighting against the criminalization of youth and parents by the public school system. In his free time, he enjoys outdoor activities such as playing soccer, hiking, riding a bicycle, and fishing.
